“The state of your heart is the state of your home.”
In 2020, I read the above quote in a book, and I can sincerely say that it changed my life. Oddly enough, the book was not about minimalism, but parenting. You see, I was stuck. I had been stuck for quite some time in a cycle of not liking anything I owned, but still somehow finding myself having to look at it and clean it every single day. Everywhere I turned, there were toys that my kids dumped out in the morning and didn’t touch for the rest of the day. There was laundry on what seemed like every flat surface. There were dished piled in the sink, mail on the counter, and the list went on and on. I felt completely mastered by the things in my home but left with no time or space to actually enjoy them. It was when I felt that same feeling starting to apply to my children that I finally decided that enough was enough.
I am so grateful that the Lord used Rachel Jankovic’s life to open my eyes to the trap I had been caught in - the very same one my husband and I were beginning to watch our children struggle in on a daily basis.
So what did we change? Where did we start?
